A Rant and a Ramble

-By: The Rev. Tiny

It's always been apparent to me that most people are apathetic to life as it occurs around them. Until the other day I didn't realize how bad it really was. I was talking my idea for this Web Site over with a friend of mine and in the course of the conversation this healthy, intelligent, twenty something let me know just how bad it's gotten. He was very depressed about his lot in life and is positive that there is nothing that he can do about it. This is bullshit! Everyone has the power to make their lives a little better every day. I know this man's situation and I admit, his lot in life does suck, but it's his belief that only those with power and money have the ability to effect change on the world around them. Once again, That's Bullshit! Can we make big changes to the world around us, probably not, but we can always do something that affects our personal lives. If I can't make my little piece of the world any better, I can at least try to make someone else's a little better. And maybe, just maybe, this might effect someone else and on down the line. Eventually everything come full circle and by making one persons life a little better, I will have enriched my own. We need to think globally and act locally. This was another of my friend's problems, he looks at all of his problems as on big problem, and it overwhelms him. And he's right; it is overwhelming, when you look at it that way. But to be realistic in making you life any better you have to tackle every problem one at a time, just like you have to tackle every day one at a time. Plan for tomorrow, but prepare for today. Benjamin Franklin put it best when he said, "Mind the minutes, and the hours will take care of themselves." That is as true today as it was two and a quarter centuries ago, maybe more so. But we seem to have forgotten that. We've become too busy in our daily lives to care about the world around us. "Let someone else deal with it, I've got More Important things to do." This seems to have become our national credo, "I've got more important things to do." Well you know what people, we do have more important things to do, and we've just forgotten what they are. Our family, our health, our friends, our neighborhood, our city, our county, our state, our country, our world. We've forgotten all of these things. What have we replaced them with is stuff. We work our asses off to accumulate stuff. Big stuff, little stuff, stuff that makes it seem like we're living the life we're meant to live. Guess what, you got it, That's Bullshit! The lives we were meant to live involve family, friends, and society, not stuff. We have become so withdrawn from the world outside that we have lost control over it. Now it controls us. Everyone wants to bitch about how the world has gotten them down, but do they do anything about it. Nope. Can we do anything about this? The answer is yes! Will we, maybe. But first we have to give up the apathy bit, do something that makes our lives even just a little bit better. It's gotten to the point that we want everything and we want it now. Well guess what people, we can't have it now (just ask little miss Veruca Salt), but we can have it eventually. If you still don't get it, sorry. I'd explain it to you again, but I have more important things to do.
